Here at PenngroveFarms we use a 120-day finishing process with minimal grain.  Our herd is fed a combination of bread and spent grains sourced from local breweries, a process which allows for much easier digestion than a traditional hard grain diet.  It is this unique diet, along with the specialized farming practices and an old fashioned aging process that results in better marbling, tender cuts and an all around superior taste!

We farm only premium Angus Beef.  Below is a list of general cuts that come when purchasing a whole cow.  However you are always welcome to customize the thickness of steaks, more hamburger over roasts, weight of roasts, number of steaks in packaging.

What’s a mixed 1/4?

This means you will received mixed cuts of a 1/2 beef share. This is why there is a choice between custom cuts.

How long can you freeze the beef for?

If the beef is wrapped in butcher paper, it can be stored in the freezer for up to one year. If it is vacuum sealed, it will be good as long as the seal isn’t broken.

How much space do the beef packages take up in the freezer?

A mixed 1/4 typically takes up about 2 shelves in a stand up freezer. A 1/2 share takes up about 4 shelves in a stand up freezer. A whole beef will fill a full size stand up freezer.

On the comparison chart there is an item called custom cuts. What does this mean?

We offer custom cuts on all shares purchased. This means that after you place an order, our in house butcher will discuss with you the portion package options we have based on the size of your family.

How is the meat packaged?

We offer both butcher paper and vacuum sealed wrapping. Butcher paper is included in the price you pay and vacuum sealing will cost just slightly more. Vacuum sealed meat lasts longer than butcher paper wrapped meat when stored in the freezer.

Yes, we do. We offer marrow and knuckle bones upon request. As well as all offal meat such as the heart, liver, tongue and tail. This is mostly available on half and whole orders. For the mixed quarter, selection is limited. Just ask!
