In 1962 my father, Onofre Garcia Cunha, left the Azores Islands in hopes to buy a ranch and start a family in America. In 1976, his dream became a reality when he purchased a 40 acre ranch in the small town of Penngrove, California.
My dad instilled many qualities in me growing up. Some of them being, the importance of family, loyalty to friendship, and having a hard work ethic. In 1982, I met Helio Anacleto who was raised with the same qualities. We instantly became best friends. We spent many days working hard and playing hard on the ranch.
In June of 2014 my father passed away but I wasn’t ready to let his dream die. Helio and I began raising beef cattle just as my dad did for so many years. We researched the effects of bread and digestion. We found that studies showed easier digestion with this type of diet versus hard grains and a much happier animal! We began finishing our beef with bread and grain resulting in better marbling, more tender cuts, and superior tasting meat. — Onofre Cunha
